I am 12 years old.
I was adopted by a new mommy and daddy today.
I was put up for adoption because I lost my mommy.
Sadly, I also lost my furry companion.

I'm a really sweet fella.
But, I'm a little confused.
I haven't eaten yet.
I also haven't played with any toys,
though I do get pretty interested when I hear
Andi squeaking her toys.
Mainly, I'm trying to figure out what's going on...

My new mommy took me to PetSmart.
I got a red and black collar.
I also got some new diapers, but
I haven't been marking in the house.
I had a great time sniffing everything.
I tried to join the obedience class,
but mommy pulled me away.
She looked at some things too long,
so I had to bark at her to remind
her that I had other things to sniff.

I bark to go outside.
I'm a pretty smart guy.

Here I am with my new mommy.
I have been having fun in my new yard.
It's really big.

My new furry companions are all girls.
I'm thinking that I might
try to stick to my dad as much as possible.
Guys really have to stick together in this house.
Molly and Andi were really grumpy with me at first,
which is just plain rude.
The girls finally settled down with me.
They had a tiz-whiz when they saw me in the house.
Andi really, really didn't like it,
but she's coming around.

Sissie doesn't care what I do
as long as I don't get in her face.
Molly is mainly grumpy.
She tried to steal my blankey and pillows.
Mommy told her to get off, and she did.

Here I am on my favorite pillows and blanket.
Once I found those, I felt a lot better.

Mommy says I listen very well for a terrier.
I think that's kind of offensive.

I'm a pretty big boy.
I weigh 19 pounds.

Mommy's going to have to figure out
how to work with me and Sissie in her lap.
I'm not really patient with the whole
focus on the computer thing.

DAY TWO

I ate a little supper today!

I also gave my new mommy a little smile.

AND... she took me back to PetSmart,
so, I showed her the little skip I do with my back legs
when I'm excited to be going somewhere.

January, 2009 Update

MacTavish is doing really well. When we got him,
his eyes were a cloudy blue. We took him to
an eye specialist who diagnosed him with
corneal endothelial dystrophy. As I understand it, there
is some sort of water pump in the eye. As a function of
aging, it can malfunction, causing the eye to flood with
water -- which accounts for the blue coloring. The second
phase involves a brown discoloration, which is indicative of
loss of sight. I may have the details wrong;
however, we have been giving him a variety of
eye drops in an attempt to reverse the
process. His eyes look much better.

Additionally, his eye lashes are also growing inward,
so the doctor is attempting to treat that as well.
Hopefully, he will not need surgery.

His appetite is much better. He barks for his food!
He's a cheerful little guy -- the "westitude" definitely
shines through. He's very playful.

He really likes animated toys. His current
favorite is a duck that lights up and
plays "twinkle, twinkle little star." He walks
around the house with it in his mouth.
He picks it up when he's excited to be
doing something. He ALWAYS brings it down
the stairs and attempts to take it outside when
we let him out in the yard.

He is a very loving little dog. He rubs himself against
our legs like a cat.

His favorite furry companion is Sissie. Sometimes they rub
against each other -- Sissie grunts with pleasure when they do this.

MacTavish
“Mac Attack”
Adopted on August 3, 2008
Died on May 9, 2011

MacTavish was adopted at the age of 12 after having lost his human mommy and furry sibling. Although he grieved the loss of his family, he quickly adapted to ours and became a cheerful and loving addition. A very affectionate fella, Mac often weaved in and out of our legs like a cat and groaned when we held him and rubbed his head, which he loved to bury into our chests.

He adored Sissie, our five-pound Yorkie, and would rub his head into her stomach, lifting her body off the ground. He would also pitch a fit when he was sleeping somewhere else and was separated from her. Mac loved toys, especially musical toys. When he was excited, he would grab one out of the toy box and walk around the house with it in his mouth. He completely destroyed a Santa toy, but remained devoted, though his favorite was his glow worm. He liked to snuggle against his glow worm, which I would keep pressing so that he could hear music while he fell asleep.

A terrier, Mac loved to explore different environments. He thoroughly enjoyed our backyard. His favorite adventure was Petsmart, especially when they had cat rooms. Mac usually had a bounce in his step, but would skip on his back legs when he was excited. He was also vocal and quick to let people know where he stood. Mac was an incredibly sweet dog, and we will miss him terribly.
