![]() Tyler will be having a blood transfusion on March 30, 2006. He is O-positive. Joel was told that anyone who wants to donate blood can donate locally and that the blood can be shipped. You just have to give them the information about where and to whom it should go. If the blood is not needed for Tyler or it would expire before his next transfusion, the blood will not be wasted. It can be used for another person. As you all know, Tyler is at Texas Children's Hospital. Here's the address: 6621 Fannin Street Houston, Texas 77030 Here's a page with some information on complications associated with chemotherapy, including problems with blood: LONG-TERM INTRAVENOUS CHEMOTHERAPY Here are some sites with information on blood and/or blood transfusions: Blood Transfusions from TeenHealth www.bloodbook.com For information on blood donation, see the following sites: Steps in the Blood Donation Process Blood Transfusion and Donation Blood Donation FAQ BLOOD DONATION ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES About Blood Use and Blood Type If you are O+ and want to donate blood, please contact your local hospital or the American Red Cross for more information about how you can become a donor. |
April 5, 2006 Several people have requested Tyler's donation number. We have received conflicting information about the blood donation number. The lady had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for a donation number. She thinks they want the medical record number. Here it is: She also stressed that there is some sort of protocol that must be followed in order for the blood to be used. She said, just to be certain, to call the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center for more information. T hey are closed at the moment, so I will have to call in the morning; however, I will be out of town, so it won’t be until later in the week. Here is the number in case anyone out there has time to call: If anyone has information different or better than what I have given, please post it! Sorry for the confusion and delayed response. Thank you, carla aka aunt rae-rae |
